PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for distinguishing whether a person is infected with a parainfluenza virus type 1 and/or type 3, or not. SOLUTION: This method for distinguishing the parainfluenza viruses is provided by performing gene-amplifying reactions by using each of primer pairs capable of specifically amplifying the HN gene domains of the parainfluenza virus type 1 and/or type 3 and analyzing the electrophoresis patterns of the obtained amplified products.
