The device has plates (14, 16) movable in a transverse direction of a vehicle, and drive devices (18) that laterally move wheels of an axle. The plates are arranged one after another in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle and together form a wheel contact area that accommodates a vehicle wheel. The drive devices are designed to move the plates to and fro and laterally with each other for axle tolerance testing and to move the plates to and fro against each other for hinge tolerance testing. The drive devices have piston- and cylinder arrangements (30, 32) that are propelled hydraulically.
