PROCESS FOR PRODUCING alpha-OLEFIN OLIGOMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process which shortens the step of producing an α-olefin multimer to efficiently produce a desired α-olefin oligomer.

SOLUTION: The process for producing an α-olefin oligomer comprises (a) a first oligomerization step of oligomerizing an α-olefin in the presence of a metallocene complex and an activator and (b) a second oligomerization step of adding a halogen compound represented by the formula: RX (wherein R is H or a hydrocarbon group, and X is a halogen atom) to the reaction solution containing an oligomer obtained in the above (a) to further oligomerize the oligomer.
