<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital copyrights management method and a system, which, when a playback device that cannot store a rights object whose status can be changed is used, can return a changed rights object to a rights object issuance authority and store it therein. <P>SOLUTION: The method includes (a) the playback device changing the rights object, (b) transmitting the changed rights object to the rights object issuance authority and (c) the rights object issuance authority storing the rights object. In addition, the above (b) includes the above (b1) setting a location, at which the changed rights object is stored in the rights object issuance authority via a URL and (b2) the digital rights management playback device transmitting the rights object to the rights object issuance authority via the URL.
