PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of painful disposal work while confirming the storage term of documents when disposing secret document or the like.

SOLUTION: This recording medium management system comprises: a recording medium management apparatus that manages identification information attached to the recording medium by associating it with a storage period of the recording medium, and checks the storage period of the recording medium for a specified identification information in response to an inquiry about a disposal permission of the recording medium specifying the identification information and grants a disposal permission when the storage period has expired; and a disposal apparatus disposing of the recording medium when the disposal permission is granted from the recording medium management apparatus. The disposal apparatus has a disposal means disposing of the recording medium, a reading means reading the identification information, and a regulation means regulating disposal by the disposal means. The identification information is read from the recording medium positioned by the regulation means.
