摘要 An image recording apparatus, comprising a carriage (38; 110) which is reciprocated in a reciprocating direction; two guide frames (43, 44) which extend in the reciprocating direction and cooperate with each other to guide a reciprocating movement of the carriage (38; 110), wherein the two guide frames (43, 44) are separate from each other in a conveying direction in which a recording medium is conveyed and which is perpendicular to the reciprocating direction, and wherein the carriage (38; 110) includes a main frame (85; 111) supported by the two guide frames (43, 44) such that the main frame (85; 111) bridges the two guide frames (43, 44), and additionally includes at least two sliding members (86; 112, 114, 115, 116) each of which has a sliding surface which slides on a corresponding one of the two guide frames (43, 44); an image recording head (39) which is mounted on the main frame (85; 111); a driving device (46) which reciprocates the carriage (38; 110) in the reciprocating direction; and a gap adjusting device (64, 46, 86, 87, 88, 96, 106, 107; 64, 46, 112, 113, 117, 118, 119, 120, 121) which changes, by utilizing the reciprocating movement of the carriage (38; 110), a distance between the sliding surface of each of the two sliding members (86; 112, 114, 115, 116) and the main frame (85; 111) in a perpendicular direction perpendicular to the reciprocating and conveying directions and thereby adjusts a gap between the recording medium and the image recording head (39) in the perpendicular direction.
