METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SEARCHING USING MULTI-INPUT WINDOWS ADAPTIVE TO THE NUMBER OF INPUT CHARACTERS

A method and a device for performing search with multi-input windows adaptive to the number of input characters are provided to output an effective search result by searching the characters displayed to each input window from different search fields of a database. A database(110) stores records such as a phone book(115) including a plurality of search fields. A display part(150) displays the input windows adaptive to the number of input characters. A key input part(120) receives the character or a character deletion command. A controller(130) controls the number of input windows displayed to the display part and a display state of each input window by responding to the character or the character deletion command, and searches the corresponding records from the database by generating a keyword. The controller generates the first keyword for sequentially selecting/searching each input character from all search fields or the second keyword for sequentially searching a character string sequentially including the inputted characters from the first field depending on the number of character inputs.
