Scaffolding ladder restraint with telescoping rail

A ladder restraint which can be incorporated into or provide part of a safety rail for a scaffolding platform comprises an elongate hollow element (10) having a laterally extending branch (12) and detent means (14) mounted on the branch (12) at a location spaced apart from the hollow element (10) to define a bay in which an upper part of a ladder (not shown) may be supported with ladder uprights resting upon the branch (12) and confined between the detent (14) and the hollow element (10). A further elongate element (16) is slidably located within the first hollow element (10) and is extensible therefrom as required to close off access to the platform. Oppositely directed sets of location pegs (19, 29) may be provided so that the hollow element (10) may be mounted in either orientation with the lateral branch (12) still projecting outwardly of an associated platform.
