The device has a radiation transmitter (1) passing over an entire breadth of a pressed material mat (4), where the transmitter is arranged with a radiation receiver (10) at an arriving area (12) of a continuously working press for monitoring of areas between an upper surface of the material mat and a lower flexible continuous steel band of the press. The transmitter is arranged with the receiver for radiating entire breadth and height of the material mat, where the transmitter and the receiver are movable in both vertical and horizontal directions.
