PURPOSE:To obtain a material for a magnetic head slider having excellent wearing properties, fitness for a magnetic recording medium and lubricating properties or the like by using the material which is obtained by sintering the composition consisting of an element or its compound selected among a specified element group, Er2O3 and SiC. CONSTITUTION:Powder of a material having a composition consisting of 0.5- 6.0wt% total amount of at least one kind of an element selected among the group of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Mg, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ba, La, Ce, Gd, Hf, Ta, W, Th and Cs, or oxide, nitride, boride and carbide of said element, 5-15wt% Er2O3 and the balance SiC is sintered. Otherwise, powder of a material obtained by substituting a sintering auxiliary consisting of at least one kind of Be, BeO, B4C, Al, AlN and Al2O3 for <=2wt% Sic is sintered. By said way, the material for a magnetic head slider having density close to theoretical density, excellent hardness, toughness, wearing properties and workability is obtained. |
