PURPOSE:To enhance the durability of a friction element by changing a transmission line in the direction in which the calorific value of the generated friction heat drops, when the fluid temp. of a power system is over a certain value and either of the engine load and revolving speed exceeds the specified value. CONSTITUTION:In a shift control device of an automatic transmission, a temp. sensing means senses fluid temp. flowing in a power system, a revolving speed sensing means does the revolving speed of the power system, and a load sensing means the engine load. When the sensed fluid temp. is over a certain value, and if a judging means judges that at least either of the sensed engine load and revolving speed of power system has exceeded the specified value, so a transmission line altering means alters the transmission means in the direction in which the calorific value of the generated friction heat is going to sink. Thus rise of the fluid temp. in an automatic transmission is suppressed within a range not impairing the running feeling, and thus durability of the friction element can be enhanced. |
