<p>A method and an apparatus for maintaining communication in a portable terminal capable of receiving GPS information are provided to quickly notify a user of coverage area which is the closest to a current position of the portable terminal by previously storing positions in which a communication state is changed. A portable terminal determines the receive sensitivity in a present position to determine the communication state of the portable terminal as a coverage area or a spot area(S202-S208). If the communication state of the portable terminal is changed according to the change of the receive sensitivity, the position of the portable terminal is stored at a time point when the communication state is changed based on ground positioning system(GPS) information(S206,S207). If the output for the positions of the coverage areas is required, the positions of the portable terminal at a time point when the communication state is changed are output.</p> |
