PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector fulfilling a grounding function with a compact structure. SOLUTION: The connector 51 is provided with a plurality of contacts, grounding plates GP and a housing retaining them. The contacts are either cantilevered signal contacts S or cantilevered grounding contacts G. A pair of the signal contacts make up a pair contact, and the grounding contact is provided with a pair of contact parts. The grounding plate is provided with a plurality of cantilevered grounding-plate contacts GP1. The pair contact is arranged between the grounding contacts in a pitch direction of the contact. The grounding-plate contacts and the signal contacts are arranged in opposition. An insertion-coupling part of a counterpart connector 61 is pinched for connection by the grounding-plate contact and the signal contact, and the insertion-coupling part of the counterpart connector is pinched for connection by the pair of contact parts of the grounding contact.
