IMMUNOLOGICAL METHOD FOR TREATING GASTROINTESTINAL CANCER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating gastrointestinal cancer dependent on amidated G17 (gastrin-17) and G17-Gly (glycine-extended G-17) which are prohormones. SOLUTION: The method for treating cancer comprises administering an anti-gastrin-17 immunogen inducing an antibody binding and neutralizing the amidated gastrin-17 and glycine-extended gastrin-17 to a patient. The immunogen is composed of a peptide comprising two functional regions of an immunomimic (immune mimic) region and a spacer region. A method for treating in another embodiment comprises passive immunization for administering an antibody against the G17 in an amount sufficient to reduce the levels of unbound G17 and the G17-Gly in a circulatory system to the patient.
