PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optimal and stable paper feeding pressure without caring about a change with the lapse of time. SOLUTION: This paper feeder feeds and sends out paper to the downstream side by separating only one sheet of its uppermost layer from the paper layered on a paper feeding plate. Its constitution has a paper feeding roller 100 for feeding and sending out the paper to the downstream side by sandwiching only one sheet of its uppermost layer between the roller and a separation plate by contacting with the uppermost surface of the layered paper, an auxiliary paper feeding roller 200 arranged on the upstream side of this paper feeding roller and pressing down by contacting with the uppermost surface of the arranged and layered paper, a belt 300 for transmitting driving force of the paper feeding roller to this auxiliary paper feeding roller so that these rollers rotate in the same direction and a tension adjusting mechanism 400 for adjusting strength of tension of this belt by pressing down a rotary roller from the outside by the belt on the side rolled in this roller in a position near the auxiliary paper feeding roller.
