The unit (5) has a casing (20) covering leaking out area in an installed condition. The generator unit and the casing are arranged to each other in the installed condition in such a manner that a flow channel is formed between the area and the casing through which the gas can flow in a direction of a gas bag. The flow channel is not formed between the area and the casing in a transportation condition. An independent claim is also included for components made up of a gas generator unit.
