Method involves combustion of the air-fuel-mixture in multiple cylinders (2) of the combustion engine (1). Method also involves operating a cylinder to be cooled, with an air-fuel ratio of greater than one, simultaneously operating a cylinder with full load with an air-fuel ratio of less or equal to one. The ignition angle of the cylinder to be cooled can be adjusted before. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Engine control unit; and (2) Combustion engine.
