PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression ring capable of narrowing its width while suppressing generation of trumpetlike abrasion of a piston ring groove, and ensuring sufficient sealing property in both low cylinder pressure intake stroke and high rotation high load expansion stroke. SOLUTION: The lower side surface of a piston ring is inclined at 10' to 1°to narrow its axial width toward a peripheral side. In this case, an inclination angle is preferably set to from 15' to 45', and more preferably set to from 20' to 45'. Also, not only the lower side surface of the piston ring but also the upper side surface thereof may be inclined at such an angle that its axial width is narrowed toward the peripheral side.
