PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ease the characteristics required for a switching element or the like of pixels in a configuration of precharging a data line and switching a voltage of a common electrode between a low level and a high level. SOLUTION: The common electrode is alternately switched between a high voltage ComH and a low voltage ComL in every horizontal scanning period (1H). Scanning lines are selected in a predetermined order, and a selection voltage is applied to each of the selected scanning lines. In a period during which the selection voltage is applied to the scanning line and in a period (b) and a period (d) when the voltage of the common electrode is constant, a data signal at a voltage according to the grayscale of pixels is supplied to the data lines (d1a), and each data line is precharged to a predetermined potential at a timing including a period during which the common electrode is changed from one of the voltage ComH and the voltage ComL to the other.
