PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a four-cycle engine with an internal EGR system in which defects due to a nonuniformity in combustion between cylinders, dispersion of exhaust gas temperature, and an excessive rise of exhaust gas temperature by the mixing of EGR gas are prevented from occurring by avoiding the mixing of EGR gas between the adjacent cylinders by internal EGR. SOLUTION: In this four-cycle engine with an internal EGR system, the sub lift amount of intake valves for a first cylinder is larger than the sub lift amount of a second cylinder with an intake valve opened when the intake valve for the first cylinder is brought in a sub lift state.
