PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a red coloring material which is composed of stable gold nanoparticles and not discolored over a long period, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: The stabilized red coloring material composed of gold nanoparticles subjected to halogen ion treatment is produced by forming gold nanoparticles on a solid surface using a gold hydrosol and thereafter treating the same with a halogen ion generating substance-containing solution.
