PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based metallic coating material composition that contains a resin for pigment dispersion capable of suppressing the reaction of a metallic pigment with water over a long period of time and can form a coating film excellent in adhesion, water resistance and appearance. SOLUTION: The water-based metallic coating material composition comprises a resin for pigment dispersion produced by copolymerizing (A) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing a phosphoric acid group and a unit represented by formula (I) [wherein R1denotes a 1-10C alkylene group; m is an integer of 1-30; and m repeating units of formulaαmay be the same or different from each other] and/or by formula (II) [wherein R2denotes a 1-10C alkylene group; n is an integer of 1-30; and n repeating units of formulaβmay be the same or different from each other] and (B) other ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a metallic pigment.
