PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove sufficiently toner adhering to a detection window of a potential detection sensor with a simple constitution. SOLUTION: A rocking body 11a is rocked by applying a frequency corresponding to a characteristic frequency to a piezoelectric element 14 relative to the rocking body 11a having electrodes 21, 22 on the surface, to thereby detect the surface potential of a measuring object. A vibration part 12a having the detection window has a characteristic frequency not generating resonance with the rocking body 11a. A frequency corresponding to the characteristic frequency of the vibration part 12a is applied to the piezoelectric element, and thereby the vibration part 12a is vibrated without rocking the rocking body 11a, and the toner adhering to the detection window is shaken off.
