PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recorder capable of providing a smooth gradation image without being affected by heat accumulated on a thermal head and suppressing omission of printing in a white part or defective contact when backing in a white color or transferring to a polycarbonate material. SOLUTION: A control section 9 of a thermal printer 1 performs resolution conversion and gradation conversion of input image data 3, and then carries out CMYK plate division processing. The printing in superimposing is performed by double torn and shift processing depending on the resolution and the number of lines of the thermal printer 1 by each image data obtained by the CMYK plate division processing so that an output image 15 is printed in the smooth gradation image without granularity and collapse due to the heat accumulation of the thermal head.
