PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera capable of shadow reference correction or highlight reference correction corresponding to the photographing intention of a photographer. SOLUTION: In this digital camera, object luminance is measured in a photometry sensor 25, and an exposure value is computed in a sequence controller 41 by the photometry value of the photometry sensor 25. Also, in the sequence controller 41, the computed exposure value is corrected by a prescribed amount. Then, on the basis of the computed exposure value or the corrected exposure value, an imaging operation is executed by a CCD 34. The output signals of the CCD 34 are processed corresponding to set gamma characteristics in an image processing circuit 44. Then, in the sequence controller 41, the prescribed amount of the correction value is changed corresponding to the gamma characteristics of the image processing circuit 44.
