PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the replacement motion of a needle thread A to be favorably and stably performed in a comparatively compact device. SOLUTION: A plurality of the needle threads A which are held by a thread standing-by/feeding means 100 are pulled out to a specified position by gripping them by a thread carrying means 200 which is provided in a manner to be reciprocated. At the same time, the needle threads A after the completion of sewing are pulled back to the thread standing-by/feeding means 100 by thread retrieving mechanisms 109a and 109b. By constituting this embroidery sewing machine in this manner, the selection, the carrying and the replacement of the needle threads A are performed by simply moving the thread carrying means 200 only.
