Novel peroxyacid bleach precursors are disclosed, having the formula : wherein R is an alkyl, aryl or alkaryl group containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or preferably a quaternary ammonium-substituted alkyl, aryl or alkaryl group containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and x is an integer from 2-6. These bleach precursors have the advantage of not containing a leaving group. Bleaching-detergent compositions comprising a peroxide compound bleach and the novel peroxyacid bleach precursors are also disclosed.
