An ink cartridge is configured to be horizontally inserted to an accommodation portion of an ink jet recording apparatus in a mounting direction. The ink cartridge includes a front surface in the mounting direction, an ink storing chamber, an ink supplying part and a detected part. The front surface has a first opening and a second opening formed therethrough. The ink supplying part extends through the first opening and is configured to supply ink from the ink chamber to the ink jet recording apparatus. The detected part is exposed to an outside of the ink cartridge through the second opening and is configured to be detected by a sensor provided in the ink jet recording apparatus. The first opening and the second opening are both offset from a center of the front surface in an alignment direction perpendicular to the mounting direction.
