PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device enabling a user to scroll a road map displayed on a display monitor while recognizing past scrolling processes. SOLUTION: Central coordinates of a road map corresponding to the center of the picture displayed on the display monitor 16 while the road map displayed on the display monitor 16 is being scrolled are successively detected, and successively stored in a RAM 13. Then, by operating an input device 18 in a prescribed manner, the central coordinates stored in the RAM 13 are successively read and a scroll locus is displayed on the display monitor 16.
