The invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition that is free from dexpanthenol, calcium ions, and phosphate and comprises at least one calcium chelating agent, at least one ophthalmologically compatible viscosity regulator, and one or several optional pharmaceutical adjuvants. The invention further relates to the use of a calcium chelating agent and an ophthalmologically compatible viscosity regulator for producing a phosphate-free pharmaceutical composition used for the treatment and/or prevention of epithelial defects.
