The invention relates to a method of mounting an internal metal plate 4 in a cylindrical object so as to form ducts from grooves 3 arranged in the inner surface 2 of the shell 1. According to the invention, the rolled, slit metal plate 4 is introduced in the axial direction into the object 1 with its edges 6, 7 overlapping, after which the edges are pressed apart by means of a tool pressed against heels 11, 12 on the inside of the plate 4 and support panels 8, 9 arranged close to the edges 6, 7 of the plate, which interact with a wedge member 10 which is driven in in the axial direction.
