Protective jacket has inner padded ribbing running over the shoulders for carrying shoulder loads

A protective jacket, e.g. fireman's jacket, has inner padded ribbing (8, 9, 11) running over each shoulder from front to back to provide inner support for shoulder carried loads, e.g. breathing apparatus. The ribbing provides a cushioned support with ventilation paths between the ribs thereby reducing the collection of perspiration and thus keeping the garment dry. The ribs are approx 2 cm wide, with a spacing of approx 1.5 cm and a height of approx 1.5 cm and are sewn into the inside lining of the jacket, e.g. between the outer and inner layers.
