PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the cleaning device of an image forming apparatus, wherein a contact area of a brush with an object such as a drum is made large to be able to cope with increase in cleaning efficiency and the speed-up of the whole apparatus as well. SOLUTION: An endless belt (brush belt) where brush hairs are transplanted is arranged so that the tips of the brush hairs almost vertically come in surface contact with a photoreceptor and an intermediate transfer body by using a drive roller and other holding rollers. The brush belt is driven by a toothed belt, the rotational direction and speed of the brush belt are controlled by a remaining toner amount, and a bias is applied to the opposition of the holding part of the brush belt, to recover waste toner.
