The invention relates to a method for preparing a powdered ethylene polymer having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 4 dl/g by polymerization of ethylene or a mixture of ethylene and not more than 2 mol% of higher olefins at a temperature below 80 degree C and an ethylene pressure below 2*10 5Pa in the presence of catalyst having a specific surface area of at most 150 m2/g. The invention also relates to a stretchable pulverulent ethylene polymer having a bulk density of at most 300 kg/m3 and an amount of residual catalyst of less than 50 ppm, and to articles made from the ethylene polymer.
