<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diaphragm control unit of an imaging apparatus which surely prevents the hunting of a diaphragm operation by making an amount of a dead zone variable. <P>SOLUTION: The diaphragm control unit of the imaging apparatus has a control means for controlling an amount of a diaphragm of a mechanically operating diaphragm, a diaphragm state detecting means for detecting the diaphragm position of the control means, and a target position determination means for assigning the target position which is a target for the control means and in which the control means determines an amount of driving according to an amount of deviation between the target position and the diaphragm position. The diaphragm unit has a dead zone decision means of deciding the prescribed amount as the amount of the dead zone and makes the amount of deviation zero if the prescribed amount of deviation is below the prescribed amount.
