PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device for a vehicle, of high practical use. SOLUTION: This steering device is provided with an impact energy absorbing device 120 to absorb impact energy of a secondary collision on a driver depending on deformation resistance of a deformation part 122 which is plastically deformed as movable parts 22, 50, and 54 coming off fixed parts 14, 20, 52, and 56 move ahead of a vehicle. The impact absorption start position as the position of the movable parts in move ahead of the vehicle where absorption of impact energy by the impact energy absorbing device 120 is started is changeable. Specifically, for example, the impact absorption start position is changeable between a first position where the deformation part 122 is locked to the fixed part by a lock state changing device 130 and a second position where the deformation part 122 is locked to a fixture lock part 150 provided on the fixed part as the deformation part 122 is not locked to the fixed part by the lock state changing device 130.
