PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous acrylic fiber giving textile products having large percentage of hollowness and small dispersion of the hollowness, at a high productivity, requiring neither special processing condition nor plant investment. SOLUTION: The method for producing porous acrylic fiber comprises eluting a component (B) from an acrylic fiber by using an alkaline solution, wherein the acrylic fiber comprises a mixture of an acrylonitrile polymer (A) with the component (B) soluble in the alkaline solution.
