PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing, at good productivity, a polyester resin with an acetoaldehyde content being reduced thereby giving no effect on the taste, flavor and the like of the content in a bottle formed of the resin. SOLUTION: The production process of the polyester resin comprises esterifying a dicarboxylic acid component containing terephthalic acid or an ester thereof as a main ingredient and a diol component containing ethylene glycol as a main ingredient to produce a polyester, wherein polycondensation is conducted in the presence of (1) at least one selected from titanium elements belonging to the group 4A in the periodic table (0.02 to 0.2 mol), (2) at least one selected from elements belonging to the groups 1A and 2A in the periodic table, manganese, iron and cobalt (0.04 to 0.6 mol) and (3) a phosphor compound (0.02 to 0.4 mol).
