The device has a filter structure (18) with filter bags (20) that include separate catalytic operating units (44, 54) that are arranged in a front area of the structure when seen in a flow direction. The units are arranged in an intermediate space (36) between the two adjacent filter bags or radially inwards or radial outwards of the bags. The units include a sintered metal, fiber interlaced yarns that are formed from metal or ceramics, or a carrier with a wash coat cover. The units or their surfaces have a wave structure running in a flow direction.
