The method involves storing region-specific and/or street type-specific information in a data memory. The surrounding of a vehicle is optically detected by using an image detection unit arranged at the vehicle. The momentary driving region and/or the momentary driving street type is determined from the detected image by using a data processing unit. The information is displayed in a display or in an instrument panel of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a system for outputting information about restrictions and/or regulations.
