PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To forcedly finish shift action at suitable timing when the starting of an inertia phase is detected still even if hydraulic control is forcedly transferred to a form in an inertia phase when the starting of the inertia phase cannot be detected based on a turbine rotation speed. SOLUTION: Even if a passing time from shift starting (time t<SB>1</SB>) exceeds a backup time<SB>inertup</SB>, when the starting of the inertia phase cannot be detected based on the turbine rotation speed NT (time t<SB>3</SB>), the determination of the inertia phase starting is performed by backup and the form of hydraulic control is forcedly transferred to the form in the inertia phase. Thereby, the stagnation of shift control is prevented. Further, when a passing time from a time when the determination of inertia phase starting is performed (time t<SB>3</SB>) exceeds a forced finishing determination time<SB>guardon</SB>(time t<SB>5</SB>), since the shift action is forcedly finished, the durability of a frictional engagement device can be ensured.
