PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary linear motion actuator capable of highly efficiently converting rotary motion to linear motion. SOLUTION: The rotary linear motion actuator 7 is provided with a rotary linear motion converting mechanism 8 converting input rotary motion to linear motion and outputting the same, and a motor 71 inputting rotary motion to the converting mechanism 8. When fixed direction thrust load applied to the rotary linear motion converting mechanism 8 by a valve gear main body is steady thrust load and the steady thrust load acts in a direction moving a sun shaft 81 to a variable valve train side from the rotary linear motion converting mechanism 8 side, a structure in which air gap formed between a stator 72 and a rotor 73 gets smaller as it goes from a rotor first side part to a rotor second side part is adopted to the motor 71.
