METHOD FOR CHARACTERISING EFFECT YARN

The invention relates to a method for characterising effect yarn, according to which at least one characteristic of said yarn is scanned in the longitudinal direction of the yarn. The scanned values are evaluated and the results of said evaluation are output. Results of the evaluation include effect yarn parameters such as link mass, link diameter, link length, mass increase of an effect portion, diameter increase of an effect portion, effect portion diameter, effect portion length and/or total mass of an effect portion. During the evaluation, a measurement curve is generated from the values and an area (A(x)) between the measurement curve and a previously determined link mass is calculated. A permanent ascent in the area profile (A(x)) is used as a criterion for the presence of an effect portion. The area (A(x)) thus permits a reliable differentiation between effect portions and yarn imperfections.
