A dispersant is new when obtained by the partial or complete reaction of (A) an amino-functional solid with (B) a specified polyester and/or (C) a specified polyether. A dispersant is new when obtained by the partial or complete reaction of (A) an amino-functional solid with (B) a polyester of formula T-CO-(O-A-CO) x-OH (I) or T-O-(CO-A-O) y-Z (Ia); and/or (C) a polyether of formula T-CO-B-Z (II) or T-O-B-Z (IIa). T : H or optionally substituted aryl, aralkyl, alkyl or alkenyl of 1-24C; A : linear, branched, cyclic or aromatic divalent hydrocarbon group; Z : sulfonic acid, sulfuric acid, phosphonic acid, phosphoric acid, carboxylic acid, isocyanate or epoxide (especially phosphoric or (meth)acrylic acid); B : a group of formula -(C lH 2lO) a-(C mH 2mO) b-(C nH 2nO) c-(SO) d-(III); a, b and c : 0-100 with the provisos that a + b + c >=0 (especially 10-20) and a + b + c + d is greater than 0 (especially 1-5); l, : >=2 (especially 2-4); and x : y >=2.
