PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an influence of noise as much as possible to perform image data processing of high precision even in the case that the noise is included in pixel data. SOLUTION: Luminance characteristics of image data are detected by a luminance characteristic detection part 1, and input image data are corrected in a correction part 4 by the detected luminance characteristics to generate display data. The luminance characteristic detection part 1 divides one frame 21 of image data into a plurality of pixel blocks 22 to detect average luminance characteristics of the pixel blocks and utilizes the average luminance characteristics to detect maximum or minimum luminance and thereby detects the luminance characteristics of image data.
