PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refolding agent capable of producing a high quality protein with good productivity, and a refolding method. SOLUTION: This refolding agent comprises a compound (A) having at least a group selected from the group consisting of a carboxy group, a carboxylate anion group, and an ester group, and this refolding method comprises a process in which an unfolded protein is treated with the refolding agent, and as the compound (A), a carboxylic acid and its salt can be mentioned.
