PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display state information according to a situation of a user, while suppressing the operation load of the user. SOLUTION: An "action rule" for changing a method for displaying the state information of a buddy, and an "application situation" for indicating a situation where the action rule is applied are stored beforehand. For example, in accordance with the rule information of an action ID "2", a buddy list "for work" is to be displayed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thus, a buddy list according to the situation of the user is automatically displayed. In accordance with the rule information of the action ID "2", a filter "working" is used from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This filter stipulates that the update notification of the state information to be notified from any communication address other than "*Ðfujitsu. com" should not be displayed.
