A glass composition which is an oxide glass in which the proportions in at.% of elements excluding oxygen (O) contained therein are as follows: 72-86%, excluding 72%, boron (B); 8-20% the sum of lithium (Li), sodium (Na), and potassium (K); 1-8% the sum of magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), strontium (Sr), and barium (Ba); 0-15%, excluding 15%, silicon (Si); and 0-2%, excluding 2%, zinc (Zn). The glass composition may further contain 0-3%, excluding 0%, molybdenum (Mo) and/or tungsten (W).
