PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly inhibit discharge of unburned HC at the time of cold start by appropriately controlling a valve-opening overlap of an intake and exhaust valve. SOLUTION: An overlap including a large part of a suction stroke range after a top dead center is formed after an initial explosion in cranking, and then an overlap within an exhaust stroke range before the top dead center is increased.
