PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system having an image stabilizing function. SOLUTION: The optical system having an optical axis includes at least one lens group and at least one light deflection element. The lens group includes a plurality of lenses lined along the optical axis. The optical deflection element is arranged along the optical axis and is located inside or outside the lens group. The light deflection element includes two substrates and a liquid crystal layer arranged between the two substrates. The surfaces of the two substrates in contact with the liquid crystal layer have electrode layers respectively. An electric field is applied to the liquid crystal layer through the electrode layers to vary the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer. Also, the two substrates form a prescribed angle.
